John GILFILLAN Esq of St.James, Westminster and Elizabeth BRIDGE of this parish were married by licence on 11 September 1791 in St.George's Hanover Square

Elizabeth Caroline Mary, daughter of Lieutenant John GILFILLAN late of the 83rd Regiment of Foot and of Elizabeth GILFILLAN (late BRIDGE) his wife, born the 5th August 1792 was privately baptised the same day & presented in the chapel of St.Aubyn [St.Brelade] the 29th of the said month by John BLOMART Esq late major in one of His Majesty's provincial Corps in America and Elizabeth Margaret KEMP daughter of Stephen KEMP Esq, Captain of His majesty's Marine Corps.

John Alexander, son of Lieutenant John GILFILLAN late of the 83rd Regiment of Foot and of Elizabeth GILFILLAN (late BRIDGE) his wife, was presented to the holy [obscured] the twenty third day of January 1794 [in St.Brelade] by Lieutenant James RAYNAR late of the 70th Regiment & Mrs. Lucy [BROWN].

William Frederick Anderson, son of John GILFILLAN, Lieut in Major GRANT's Independent Company of Invalids & Elizabeth his wife, was born on the twenty seventh of January and baptised on the twentieth day of February1796 in the Garrison of Elizabeth Castle, Jersey.

Adam, son of John GILFILLAN Gent: Lieut't in the Royal Independent Invalids and of Elizabeth his wife, was baptised on the eleventh day of August 1800 in St.Helier, Jersey

His brother William Frederick Anderson GILFILLAN also went to the Cape as a soldier and married Anne Margaret THORNHILL in Bathurst
 
Adam GILFILLAN has also been frequently named as a nephew of Christopher THORNHILL but this is incorrect and probably arose from a misconception by Jeremiah GOLDSWAIN of WAIT's Party, who wrote in his diary "I was informed that the pirson had come down from London: this was Mr. Adam GILFILLAN Nesuw to Mr. THORNHILL Mr. Wm WAITs partner." GOLDSWAIN probably confused Adam GILFILLAN with John Philip CAMM, who was THORNHILL's nephew.
